When I try to explain to people that marketing and branding your company and or services using social media I get this confused look. The next step is usually me trying to break down various possibilities to how they can take their company/product brand to a whole new level of demographics. It is usually here I get the response, “We’re not into spamming,” this is where it gets tricky.
How do explain to individuals who don’t know to much about marketing and especially marketing/branding online. Lets face it social media is still new and for one reason or another the majority of the companies out there are not utilizing their marketing dollars for this. Thanks goes out to Michael Miraflor for some insight on this. Yet, more companies are starting to think up new techniques to reach their target market. Take the recent write up over at Interactive Marketing Trends blog by Giles Rhys Jones. Thanks goes out to Donna for this find btw. The point is companies are being innovative and utilizing social media so why do people still think its “spam”.
Currently I’ve been working on branding my company more and more. So, in order to do so I redid my twitter page using GIMP for the first time (Photoshop was messing up on me!). While not a “ton” of people will be visiting my twitter page on a daily basis by branding it will the company name it will ensure that whenever I mention my twitter page and someone might ‘follow me’ they will go to the page first. The name branding recognition will grow. While it took longer than anticpated but thanks to Croncast I was able to get it done within an hour and half.
The next step is redoing my Plurk page which I think I’ll put more time and effort into since of its growing status and the ability to see how my views you have. Nonetheless, there are steps to take to build your brand/service without spamming and the first step is the easiest: Brand – Brand – Brand, not to be confused with Spam – Spam – Spam.
Trust me, people will thank you for branding then just spamming your brand.
