Why TWO Letters Mean Everything
I really love Public Relations (PR) and know how journalism goes hand-in-hand with it while cheating on their girlfriend called advertising. It’s the name of the game – how do we spark controversy and get those ad dollars?
By now you have heard the news stories of a possible mosque being built at ground zero. Wait…did you see it? Those two little words: AT – not near, not around the corner: AT
What if it read:
“Mosque to be built around the corner from Ground Zero memorial”?
Or how about:
“Mosque and youth facility to be built near Ground Zero”?
Pretty different feeling than “AT” Ground Zero. Truth be told is is not being built on the remains of the tragic event that happened on September 11th 2001. Now, I don’t plan on getting into politics with this writing rather to look at it from a journalistic / PR / Marketers mindset. If the words were replaced with more accurate description would it get noticed? If the description would be more clear would there be more people reading about it thus causing more/less advertising dollars?
See where I am going with this?
The point of the fact is when you write text in todays world just about every LITTLE word counts especially when the subject matter touches so many.
