Free Information, Right?
I glanced at my Google reader and saw the title: Media Moguls: We Should Get Paid for Our Content and pondered the question should they be paid for content?
We are living in a world where information is free and no one can do anything about it. Take a look around the newspaper is quickly dying. Magazine’s are folding left and right. We are in a world where we have to have our information and have it now. Copyright is no more black and white – its all gray now with the help of the internet. How can you copyright free press from bloggers?
Why would I pay an annual subscription to your site (newspaper or otherwise) when someone in the same career field or otherwise has written (or tweeted) about the event? I look over the top searches or popular trends and automatically know what the news is going to be about.
Then it comes to the medium of television. My wife and I are DVR fiends – we have lives to lead and since we’re so busy our DVR is basically filled up daily (thanks to her shows) but majority of the time I hardly catch a commercial – so does that mean I should pay MORE because of DVR?
Interesting concept especially with the moguls talking about rolling out more capabilities to stream (online) their television programs *cough*HULU*cough*. Yet, with Time Warner trying to capsize the download speed how efficient will this be? You miss the season finale of LOST but can’t watch it online unless you want either to:
A) Pay for going over the allotted MB’s (megabytes) for the month
B) Pay for the ‘privilege’ to watch it
It’s getting to that point right now where both of those are coming into play so be on the look-out.
Am I wrong – than tell me…please!
