Using Maps To Market Your Company

Yes, that’s right – MAPS. You will be amazed of how this can benefit a companies standings in the search engine if done correctly. The biggest thing is to make sure you’ve done this to all mapping sites that offer it. Interested in finding which ones do it and how to do it?

Consumers are more inclined to search for a company online before calling let alone traveling there. So, by adding your companies profile to the various search engine’s mapping system is an added bonus that most people aren’t aware.

The first on the list of course is Google Maps. They have a pretty easy set-up for businesses to add themselves to the mapping system. Go to Local Business Center and start inputting all the information:

Local Business in Google

From here you enter in all the company information and is pretty straight forward. After it is all done the confirmation has to be the quickest they offer to call you or mail a postcard to the business for verification. The phone call takes less than 2 minutes and after it is done:

Next on the list is Yahoo Maps local business. The process for inputting the information is just about the same. Although the boxes are much smaller and harder to input.

Once you’re done filling out all the information you submit it to Yahoo and they review it which can take 3-5 business days which is all detailed in the email you receive.

Last on our list is that of the MSN aka Live Search Local Listing. As the previous you enter in the information

However, it is the confirmation that is differnent. Instead of having various ways to verify your company they basically tell you that they will let you know if you’ve been approved via snail mail.

One to also mention is that of MapQuest via MapQuest Developer Network. While not a search engine specific it only helps and the forms are about the same.

MapQuest Local Business Request

The bottom line? We can go back and forth which local business mapping is best *cough*google*cough* but the point of the matter is by inserting your companies contact information on these various search engines it allows more users find you in a variety of ways. From Google to even MapQuest. Get your name out there as freely as possible.

    Hey Nathan,

Are you reading my mind? Yesterday you spoke about editorial calendars like I did at the same time, and today you talk about local business and map listings in search engines, about 30 minutes after I received a call from a prospective customer who had found me on Google Maps. :)

Hahahaha nope no mind reading over here. This is actually something I’ve been working on compiling this list for awhile and here but never got around to putting it all together. Then I had a meeting and one of their key terms resulted in their google map address which was nice but not in other engines.
